League: Independent Negro Leagues Team
History: The Grey Sox were independent until 1920 when they joined the Negro Southern League (considered a minor league by baseball historians). Montgomery defeated the Atlanta Crackers in a 3-0 perfect game that season. During the NSL’s 1932 season – the only year it was a major league – the Grey Sox played at the Cramton Bowl, which also hosted the Philadelphia Athletics for spring training. The park survives to this day and renovated in 2011.
