History: The Cannibals were an independent semi-pro team founded in 1895. Their first sojourn in Organized baseball was in 1912, when they finished first in the Class D South Central League (interestingly, there was also a team called the Hannibal Cannibals in 1912, but we digress). The team got its nickname, as many teams did at the time, from a newspaper account of a game. Longview was said to have โeatenโ the opposing San Antonio Missionaries. Great short-bill cap.
