As Grade 2 items, most often the issue is small holes or delamination. The holes may be repaired with a bit of attention and patches. Quite often the holes were only noticeable by getting inside the bivy and looking for light (that's how hard our warehouse team work!).
The British Army's approach to the bivy bag is a no-nonsense design but with superior material quality. By "no-nonsense design" we mean there is no side zip, snap dome fastening or hook & loop strips to mess around with. You enter through the wide opening at the top, tighten the bag with a drawstring, then you're locked in for a dry night in the wilderness.
