History: Almendares made up – along with Habana – the fiercest historical rivalry in Cuban baseball. The team was founded in the Almendares district of Havana in 1876. If you were a fan of “los Azules (Blues)” your slogan was translated as “he who defeats Almendares dies”. In their long history Almendares won 24 league championships and two Caribbean Series titles.
